MEMBERSHIP
The lifeblood of The Arc of St. Clair County is its active membership. Members pay yearly dues and are expected to assist The Arc in at least one of several ways:
- fund-raising activity
- promoting The Arc mission in the community
- participating on committees
- volunteering for individual advoocacy services
- referring individuals who need services
- attending regular membership meetings
- participating in special training
- volunteering with quality assurance monitoring, and
- helping with grounds and building clean-up/maintenance.
General membership meetings are held three to four times a year. Elections are conducted for new directors for the board at the November meeting.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Those members that are in good standing, are eligible to hold office on the Board of Directors, which consists of four (4) elected officers, thirteen (13) directors, and the immediate past president. Board meetings are held as scheduled at the begininng of each year.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the conduct of business of The Arc and appoints chairs for the standing committees to help oversee vital areas such as: advocacy program, ways and means. It employs an Executive Director to manage operations and the staff.
The Executive Committee consists of the Board President, Vice-President, Past President, Secretary and Treasurer. This committee has the authority to act on behalf of the board between meetings. It is to review By-Laws of the agency on a regular basis and make recommendations to the membership.

COMMITTEES

Ways and Means Committee. The purpose of this committe is to help generate ideas for fundraising projects and to organize the efforts. This committee should include representatives from the Women's Auxiliary and bingo volunteers. It is also responsible for the planning and conducting the "Annual Giving Campaign".

Program Committee. This committee shall obtain a comprehensive overview of all Arc habilitation and employment/industrial programs and services for the purpose of receiving and monitoring program quality of service, population characteristics, effectiveness, efficiancy of outcomes, and consumer satisfaction. It shall recommend each year goals for program development and outcomes which will become part of the Agency Action Plan. It shall review special projects and make recommendations to the board on their applicability and importance to The Arc's fulfillment of mission. It shall help ensure that program services are consistent with The Arc's adopted "value statements."

Advocacy Committee. This committee reviews activities related to The Arc advocacy initiatives within the community. In particular, it shall monitor utilization of emergency funds as well as direct advocacy services to families and persons with developmental disabilities. It shall also obtain a comprehensive overview of all issues; local, state, and national; which effect the lives of persons with developmental disabilities and their familes. The task of this committee is to establish clear positions on these issues that are consistent with agency mission and value statements. It shall recommend and participate in strategies that effectively disseminate information and/or influence change. It will act as liason with other advocacy groups, elected representatives, and officials in order to garner support for appropriate legislative action.
Finally, it shall monitor the organization's efforts to enhance and promote community based services to persons with developmental disability.
It is the responsibilty of each committee to present to the board of directors and membership a year-end report on its activities and accomplishments.
